Today
Phew...Today I finished the last of the oral Cardiology Exams. Yay! It wasn't as bad as I was expecting thank goodness. Next week I must prepare for the death march of the week after. I have a 30 minute inservice, a group comprehensive patient presentation, a Therapeutics exam and an Herbal Poster to present. That should keep me plenty busy. :)
Want Abs of Steel?

The Last Lecture.
This is a very inspirational talk. I recommend everyone take a moment to watch it. Living your life as he indicates gives you something to look forward to whether or not you achieve your dreams. A lot of happiness comes from living like Tigger!
"I'm Pregnant... Can I take this?"
Hello everyone,
I am giving a short 30 minute presentation on what over-the counter products are safe or not safe for use in pregnancy. I need your help if you could possibly spare a moment. All I need to know is what types of medicines you (anyone!...men...women...children) generally use that are over the counter. Also, if you are particularly curious about certain medications, please do let me know. These may include topical products too like hydrocortisone, etc. Once I have finished my presentation I will post the information for all to see!
Thanks! ~S
St. Patrick's Day Celebration
Yesterday, St. Patrick's Day, I had to work. So, I decided to bring the party with me. I brought a St. Patrick's Day Feast including Irish Bangers, Potato Salad, Potato Rolls and Irish Handshakes to drink. The Irish Handshake is made of 2 parts Ginger Ale to 1 part lime sherbet. I also made green apple taffy...which actually turned out to have more of a 'now-n-later' consistency. Here are some pictures from the festivities. It was a lot of fun...delicious too. Others brought Shamrock Cookies, Lucky Green Rice Krispie Treats, and Mint Chocolate Chip Ice-Cream.
That's me! mmmm....tastes like leprechaun.
Our fabulous pharmacists partaking of the green 'Ale'.
Mmmm....Green Rice Krispie Treats.
The Menu...if you can read it.

My personal countdown has begun. I can see the end in sight from this long tunnel of life that I have only known as school. ------>
Prenatal Vitamin
Hello all you girlies out there. I am going to stand on my soap box for a minute.
If you are of birth-giving age (between puberty and menopause), I recommend you take a prenatal vitamin or an equivalent that will give you the nutrients you need in case you become pregnant (on purpose or accident). Most of you probably know about folic acid. The recommended daily intake is 600 mcg if you are pregnant. Make sure you are taking at least 600 mcg folic acid daily. Folic acid deficiency results in (completely preventable) neurological problems, specifically spina bifida. The catch is... if you start taking folic acid when you find out you are pregnant it could be too late. This defect occurs within the first two weeks of pregnancy.
When I worked in the newborn intensive care unit, the majority of babies coming through were sick due to malnourished mothers. So please take at least a multivitamin that has > 600 mcg folic acid if you can't take prenatal vitamins. Thanks! I want to keep my girls' babies healthy!

Diabetes Spring Egg Hunt
Yesterday, we (Rho Chi) put on the annual Spring Egg Hunt for children with diabetes. It was a ton of fun and the kids had a blast. I am so glad that I have such wonderful opportunities like this at school. It's a ton of fun! I have posted the pictures so you can see the spoil! Enjoy.
