BathTub Test

During a visit to the mental asylum, a visitor asked the Director how you determine whether or not a patient should be institutionalized. "Well," said the Director, "we fill up a bathtub, and then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup and a bucket to the patient and ask him or her to empty the bathtub." "Oh, I understand," said the visitor. "A normal person would use the bucket because it's bigger than the spoon or the teacup." "No."said the Director, "A normal person would pull the plug. Do you want a bed near the window?"

It's Over...

So, you may have noticed that I haven't posted anything for weeks...that is because I just gave my seminar today. Hooray! It's over! This was such a labor intensive project that I didn't have time to do much else. My "seminar" is an hour long presentation to faculty and students on a topic of my interest. I did mine on "Lucinactant's Role in Neonatal Respiratory Distress Syndrome" We have to discuss background information on the pathophysioloyg of the disease state and then analyze two trials on the subject and decide if you agree with their conclusions. It is a powerpoint presentation and we have to provide a handout....mine was a little long (14 page!). The topic is most commonly drug related. This is one of the big main projects of pharmacy school. I will have to do one more in the Fall. I am getting so close to being done with the didactic portion of school that I can't even believe it! If you didn't notice already, I put a countdown to graduation day up a while ago on the right. I'm not excited or anything.

Glass of Milk

This actually brought a tear to my eye...I know...I'm such a sap!

"One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry. He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door. Instead of a meal he asked for a drink of water! . She thought he looked hungry so brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it so slowly, and then asked, How much do I owe you?" Yo u don't owe me anything," she replied. "Mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness." He said ... "Then I thank you from my heart." As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was strong also. He had been ready to give up and quit. Many year's later that same young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease. Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes. Immediately he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to her room. Dressed in his doctor's gown he went in to see her. He recognized her at once. He went back to the consultation room determined to do his best to save her life. From that day he gave special attention to her case. After a long str uggle, the battle was won. Dr. Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill to him for approval. He looked at it, then wrote something on the edge, and the bill was sent to her room. She feared to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally she looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill. She read these words ... "Paid in full with one glass of milk" (Signed) Dr. Howard Kelly. Tears of joy flooded her eyes as her happy heart prayed: "Thank You, God, that Your love has spread broad through human hearts and hands." There's a saying which goes something like this: Bread cast on the water comes back to you. The good deed you do today may benefit you or someone you love at the least expected time. If you never see the deed again at least you will have made the world a better place - And, after all, isn't that what life is all about?"

Mountain Dew Glow Stick

Watch the video, then read my comments below. (Don't forget to turn off the music below)

This is an awesome video! I don't mean to burst all your bubbles but I did my research and it's fake. It can still work, but you have to add part of a glow stick to the mixture. The portion you need is the diphenyl oxalate ester. This compound reacts with the hydrogen peroxide and after a bunch of chemical reactions, a dye inside the glow stick emits light.
A glow stick comprises two separated liquids. On the inside you have hydrogen peroxide in a thin glass rod while just outside of this you have a pool of diphenyl oxalate ester. This is why you have to bend and break the seal inside before a glow stick will actually glow.
To make this experiment work, you have to cut a glow stick and pour only the outer liquid into the Dew. You then add hydrogen peroxide and....walaa...glow. you don't actually need baking soda...that is just there because who wouldn't think hydrogen peroxide reacts with baking soda to make glowness!

Well...it's back to school for me. A little too quick if you ask me.
Anyway, if you email or call me...I probably won't get back to you until May. Just thought you would want to know. ;)
