Mountain Dew Glow Stick

This is an awesome video! I don't mean to burst all your bubbles but I did my research and it's fake. It can still work, but you have to add part of a glow stick to the mixture. The portion you need is the diphenyl oxalate ester. This compound reacts with the hydrogen peroxide and after a bunch of chemical reactions, a dye inside the glow stick emits light.
A glow stick comprises two separated liquids. On the inside you have hydrogen peroxide in a thin glass rod while just outside of this you have a pool of diphenyl oxalate ester. This is why you have to bend and break the seal inside before a glow stick will actually glow.
To make this experiment work, you have to cut a glow stick and pour only the outer liquid into the Dew. You then add hydrogen peroxide and....walaa...glow. you don't actually need baking soda...that is just there because who wouldn't think hydrogen peroxide reacts with baking soda to make glowness!
